Updated
This policy covers the Marko iPhone app, markomeasure.com, its Cloudflare-hosted support pages, and support provided by the Marko developer (“we,” “us”). For privacy questions or requests, use our contact form.
Measurements stay on your device
Marko stores your workspace locally, including measurements, coordinates, projects, folders, pins, names, notes, imported backups, and display preferences. The app has no user accounts, developer-operated cloud sync, advertising, or third-party analytics SDKs. It does not automatically send your measurement library to us.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising or tracking across other companies’ apps and websites.
Location and walking capture
With your permission, Marko uses location to center the map. During an explicitly started Walk, it processes coordinates, timestamps, reported position accuracy, speed, and speed uncertainty to record the phone’s route. Accepted points retain coordinates, timestamps, and position accuracy. Speed estimates are used during capture and are not saved as measurement metadata.
A started walk can continue in the background or with the screen locked. Finish, cancellation, or an interruption stops capture. Marko does not request Always location permission. Walk requires precise location; manual map measurement remains available without location permission.
You can change or revoke location access in iPhone Settings. Revoking permission stops further authorized access; it does not delete measurements already stored on your device.
Maps, search, and Apple services
Map display, imagery, map snapshots, and place search use Apple services and require network requests. These requests may include search text, the map area being viewed, location where authorized, and technical information needed to provide the service. Search text is sent to Apple when you submit a place search.
Apple processes this information under its own terms and Apple Maps privacy information. iOS, App Store diagnostics, and device backup services may also process or back up data according to your settings and Apple’s policies. Local workspace storage does not make the map services offline.
Exports and sharing
You choose whether and where to export or share information. JSON workspace backups can contain projects, drafts, pins, notes, precise coordinates, and captured location metadata. CSV and KML contain measurement information described in their export screens; KML can also contain notes.
Share cards contain the project name, a map with measurement outlines, measurement names, estimated totals, and a save date. Marko saves these images on your device before you choose a sharing destination. Manage them in Library → Saved share cards. Deleting a project does not delete its separate cards.
Files, cloud storage, sharing services, and recipients handle exported copies under their own policies. Review the contents and recipients before sharing.
This website and support email
This website contains no advertising, usage-analytics scripts, or third-party fonts. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site and may process IP addresses, browser and request information, network-error reports, and security-related data to provide and protect the service. Cloudflare’s processing is described in its privacy policy.
The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile and rate limiting to check for automated abuse. Cloudflare processes the bot-check token, IP address, browser information, and related technical data for this purpose. See the Turnstile privacy policy. The bot check requires JavaScript.
When you submit a support request, we receive your reply email address and message. Cloudflare processes the submission and forwards it to our support mailbox at Proton Mail. The form does not accept attachments and does not save submissions in a separate website database. The handler does not deliberately log message contents or reply addresses; Cloudflare may retain operational logs and security data under its service settings.
We use support correspondence to respond to your request, troubleshoot problems, and handle follow-up or privacy requests. Proton Mail processes email under its privacy policy. If you correspond with us by email, your email provider also processes the messages and any attachments you choose to send. Contacting support does not give us access to your device’s measurement library.
We disclose information only as needed to provide the services described here, when you choose to share it, or when required by law. Service providers process information under their applicable privacy terms and service agreements.
Retention and deletion
Local workspace content remains until you remove it or delete the app. Deleting a saved measurement does not remove separate project snapshots, drafts, recovery copies, share cards, exported files, or device backups. Manage those copies separately.
Use the Library to manage saved work, drafts, projects, pins, and share cards. To remove all local Marko app data, use Delete App in iPhone Settings. Offload App keeps documents and data. Exports and device backups stored elsewhere are not removed by deleting Marko, and restoring a backup can restore older content.
We retain support correspondence only as long as needed to handle the request, related follow-up, and applicable recordkeeping obligations. You can ask us to delete support messages through our contact form. Cloudflare, Proton, Apple, and destinations you choose manage their own records under their policies.
Security and your choices
Marko uses local app storage and iOS data protection. Protect your device and keep independent backups of important work. No device or storage method is completely secure.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information. You can manage local content using the app and device controls, revoke location permission in Settings, and contact us about support correspondence or other privacy questions. We cannot remotely access or erase your local measurement library or copies held by other providers.
